Primary Job Duties

Individuals in the Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer role report to the Manager of Analytics and BI. They will work closely with other members of the IT team and our internal customers to build reporting and analytic solutions that are accurate, reliable, and easily accessible. BI Engineers will educate and train our internal customers to use data and display the information in ways that promote analysis and exploration.

The BI Engineer takes an active part in the full life cycle of reporting and analytic solutions. This includes but is not limited to requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and production support of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and BI platforms. This broad scope of responsibilities provides you with the opportunity to become proficient in many new and exciting technologies throughout your career at SkyWest.

Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Gather and document requirements for analytic and BI solutions

• Identify data sources (both internal and external) needed to meet requirements

• Develop dimensional models using an agile approach

• Develop predictive modeling solutions

• Develop and support extract, transform, and load (ETL) jobs pulling from various sources to load the data warehouse

• Develop semantic layer in various BI platforms to facilitate self-service reporting needs

• Create complex visualizations using Tableau

• Work with internal and external customers to troubleshoot and resolve issues with provided solutions

• Provide training and support to internal customers to help them grow in their knowledge and use of our reporting and analytic systems.

• Demonstrates that privacy is a priority when handling personal data.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, or related field

• Experience with relational databases and SQL (Microsoft SQL Server preferred)

• Experience with designing and building dimensional data models preferred

• Experience with designing and building predictive models preferred

• Experience with ETL tools (WhereScape RED preferred)

• Experience with business intelligence tools (Tableau preferred)

• Experience with programming languages (Python preferred)

• Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Airline industry knowledge preferred

• Ability to sit at a computer and work for extended periods of time.
